Day 121: Histograms / Convert Customary Units / Population and Samples

Today in Math 6, students in and 3° discussed last night's evening practice.  Mr. Giomini provided the students with data that they had to use to construct a histogram which was a skill on last week's quiz that we struggled with a little due to labeling and interval discrepancies.

In Math 6 students began Lesson 10.6: Convert Customary Units.  During this lesson, students learned two approaches to solving problems converting between two or more measurements.

During 7 °, students in Math 6+ checked their evening practice with a key provided by Mr. Giomini. Students continued their work with populations and different types of samples.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • use ratio reasoning to convert measurement units. (2°)
  • manipulate and transform units appropriately when multiplying and dividing quantities. (2°)
  • display numerical data sets in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots. (1 & 3°)
  • understand that statistics can be used to gain information about a populations by examining a sample of the population. (7°)
  • understand that random sampling tends to produce representative samples and support valid inferences. (7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1 & 3° -
    • Reviewing constructing and interpreting graphical representations for Friday's posttest.
    • Have 75% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • 2° -
    • Complete page 509.
    • Have 75% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • 7° -
    • Complete handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 50% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
