Day 120: Multi-layered Box Plots / Constant Speed / Populations and Sampling Methods

Today in Math 6, students in and 3° discussed last night's evening practice.  Once that was completed, box plots were utilized, but the twist was three sets of data were graphed on one number line.  Students then generated questions based on their box plot constructions.

In Math 6 students continued their work with Lesson 10.5: Constant Speed.  Mr. Giomini posted a problem to the board that students had to solve independently.  Class then discussed the answer as a whole. Apply Unit Rates: Constant Speed: Quick Check was assigned dealing with constant speed. Support was provided by Mr. Giomini and Mrs. Long when needed.  Students then worked on their evening practice.

During 7 °, students in Math 6+ checked their evening practice with a key provided by Mr. Giomini. More work was done with populations and sampling to help students better understand how surveys, polls, and other data gathering techniques are implemented.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems. (2°)
  • use appropriate statistical measures to describe and summarize data sets. (1 & 3°)
  • determine populations and samples when gathering data. (7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1 & 3° -
    • Complete handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 75% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • 2° -
    • Complete page 502.
    • Have 75% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • 7° -
    • Complete handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 50% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
