Day 112: Frequency Tables and Histograms / Make Sense and Persevere

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students were handed back their Concept Seven: Data Analysis posttests. Mr. Giomini discussed the strengths and weaknesses that he saw on the assessment.

Students then transitioned to Lesson 16.1: Frequency Tables and Histograms.  The lesson discussed frequency tables and how to utilize them to organize a data set in an attempt to construct a histogram. Histograms are good for comparing the distribution of values in a data set.

During Math 6 - 2°, students worked with Lesson 9.6: Make Sense and Persevere.  This lesson emphasized application of what students learned from Lesson 9.1 - 9.5 to generate, represent, and solve problems involving equivalent ratios.

Math 6+ students received their Concept Seven: Data Analysis posttest back to see where their successes and missteps were on the assessment.

Students then transitioned to Lesson 16.1: Frequency Tables and Histograms.  The lesson discussed frequency tables and how to utilize them to organize a data set in an attempt to construct a histogram. Histograms are good for comparing the distribution of values in a data set.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. (2°)
  2. use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. (2°)
  3. make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements. (2°)
  4. make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements, find missing values in the tables, and plots pairs of values on a coordinate plane. (2°)
  5. display numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots. (1, 3, and 7°)
  6. describe any overall pattern and any striking deviations from the overall pattern with reference to the context in which the data were gathered. (1, 3, and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°):
    • Complete pages 789 and 790.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  2. Math 6(2°):
    • Review notes and practice for tomorrow's posttest.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  3. Math 6+:
    • Complete pages 789 and 790.
    • Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
