Day 113: Standing Broad Jump / Posttest / Gizmo

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students worked in groups of five to six to gather data on their standing broad jump distances.  Each student jumped twice as their peers measured the distance that they traveled.  Once data was gathered, information was shared and students constructed a frequency table and histogram using the class's distances.

During Math 6 - 2°, students were administered and completed the Topic Nine: Ratios posttest.

Math 6+ students reviewed their evening practice from last night before briefly discussing the pros and cons for using a histogram when graphically representing a data set.  Mr. Giomini distributed a new Gizmo: Histograms to students.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. (2°)
  2. use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. (2°)
  3. make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements. (2°)
  4. make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole-number measurements, find missing values in the tables, and plots pairs of values on a coordinate plane. (2°)
  5. display numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots. (1, 3, and 7°)
  6. describe any overall pattern and any striking deviations from the overall pattern with reference to the context in which the data were gathered. (1, 3, and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°):
    • Handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  2. Math 6(2°):
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  3. Math 6+:
    • Complete your histogram Gizmo.
    • Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
