Day 107: Problem Solving / Equivalent Ratio Quick Check / Problem Solving

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students continued their work with measures of center and measures of variability/spread.  Mr. Giomini paired students up in groups of three to work on problems that developed perseverance.  The lesson provided an opportunity to focus on the thinking habits good problem solvers use as they make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

During Math 6 - 2°, students worked continued their work with Lesson 9.3: Equivalent Ratios. After reviewing the previous day's evening practice, students played "Display the Digits" either with a partner or by themselves to reinforce equivalent ratios.

Students in Math 6+ continued their work with measures of center and measures of variability/spread.  Mr. Giomini paired students up in groups of three to work on problems that developed perseverance.  The lesson provided an opportunity to focus on the thinking habits good problem solvers use as they make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems. (2°)
  2. use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. (2°)
  3. recognize that a measure of center for a numerical data set summarizes all of its values with a single number. (1, 3, & 7°)
  4. describe how a measure of variation describes how its values vary with a single number. (1, 3, and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°):
    • Complete pages 765 and 766.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  2. Math 6(2°):
    • Complete handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  3. Math 6+:
    • Complete pages 765 and 766.
    • Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
