Day 106: Median, Mode, and Range / Equivalent Ratios / Median, Mode, and Range

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students continued their work with measures of center.  Mr. Giomini also introduced range which is a measure of spread or variability.  Students were provided different data sets and had to make decisions as to how the measures of center or spread were affected due to a piece of data being either added or removed from the data set.

During Math 6 - 2°, students worked with Lesson 9.3: Equivalent Ratios.  In this lesson, students extended their knowledge of multiplication and division to generate equivalent ratios, which they analyzed in a table.

Students in Math 6+ continued their work with measures of center.  Mr. Giomini also introduced range which is a measure of spread or variability.  Students were provided different data sets and had to make decisions as to how the measures of center or spread were affected due to a piece of data being either added or removed from the data set.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems. (2°)
  2. use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. (2°)
  3. recognize that a measure of center for a numerical data set summarizes all of its values with a single number. (1, 3, & 7°)
  4. describe how a measure of variation describes how its values vary with a single number. (1, 3, and 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°):
    • Complete pages 759 and 760.
    • Complete Median, Mode, and Range Quick Check
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  2. Math 6(2°):
    • Complete pages 443 and 444 numbers 1, 5, 15, 16, 19, and 20
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  3. Math 6+:
    • Complete pages 759 and 760.
    • Complete Median, Mode, and Range Quick Check
    • Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
