Day 96: Percent Change / Performance Based Task / Simple Interest

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students worked with percent change, increases and decreases, when comparing different values.

During Math 6 - 2°, students worked with Topic 6.6: Math Practices and Problem Solving which emphasised multiple math practice to gain fluency with the standard algorithms for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing number.  Students worked in small pairs while Mrs. Long and Mr. Giomini provided support.

Students in Math 6+ continued their work with percents and their application to real-world situations by working with simple interest.  This type of interest is paid only on the principal.  The principal is the amount of money deposited or borrowed.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. use one-step equations to solve percent problems. (1&3°)
  2. fluently divide multi-digit numbers. (2°)
  3. solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations. (2°)
  4. calculate percent increase and decrease.  (7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°):
    • Complete numbers 9 - 16  on the digital handout.  CLICK HERE
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  2. Math 6(2°):
    • Math Practices and Problem Solving: Precision: Quick Check (Pearson online)
    • Review for Thursday's posttest.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  3. Math 6+:
    • Complete numbers 12 - 19 on the digital handout.  CLICK HERE
    • Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
