Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students applied their previous knowledge of multiplying rational numbers and applied that to dividing fractions. Mr. Giomini modeled the how and why students use the reciprocal of fractions when dividing them to help improve the overall comprehension of the material.
During Math 6 - 2°, students extended their understanding of positive and negative rational numbers to include absolute value comparisons and ordering of absolute values. Mr. Giomini asked students to interpret the meaning of absolute values in real-world contexts, and distinguish comparisons of absolute values from statements about order.
Students in Math 6+ worked with multiplying and dividing decimals by completing a quiz.
Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
- interpret and compute quotients of fractions. (1, 3, and 7°)
- solve word problems involving division of fractions by fractions. (1, 3, and 7°)
- use visual fraction models to represent problems. (7°)
- understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values. (2°)
- understand ordering and absolute value of rational numbers. (2°)
- fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
- Math 6(1&3) - Pages 27 and 28
- Math 6(2): Pages 163 and 164
- Math 6+: Pages 40 - 42
- All Classes: m > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
Something for fun!
