Today in Math 6 - 1 & 3°, students reviewed last night's evening practice with Mr. Giomini dealing with multi-step equations involving integers. Students reviewed answers from yesterday's golfing activity. Mr. Giomini stressed the importance of explaining answers in detail when providing a written response.
During Math 6 - 2°, students began class by working on a Quick Check through enVision that dealt with solving one-step equations with addition and subtraction. After the assessment was completed, Mr. Giomini modeled how to solve one-step equations dealing with multiplication and division.
Students in Math 6+ began a three day project that used our knowledge of absolute value and the coordinate plane in a real-world situation dealing the Haiti earthquake of 2010.
Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
- find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram. (1 and 3°)
- reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities. (2°)
- solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q and px = q for cases in which p, q and x are all nonnegative rational numbers. (2°)
- graph absolute value inequalities on a coordinate plane. (7°)
- solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form. (7°)
- fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation. (all classes)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
- Math 6 - 1 & 3: Even numbers from Thurs' handout
- Math 6 - 2°: page 103 in enVision wkbk
- Math 6+: Catch up on Khan
- All Classes: m > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
