Class Topics: 10.02.14

In Common Core Math Six today, students completed a four question Socrative dealing with one-step equations from Chapter Two.  Throughout Chapter Three, I will use Socrative quizzes to help keep Chapter One and Two concepts fresh in the student's mind.

Mr. Giomini then introduced Lesson 3.3: Adding Integers.  Number lines were used to show the movement either up or down to help with visually modeling how -5 + 12 = 7.  Students worked independently to complete the even problems on page 12 as Mr. Giomini circulated the room to check on student progress and understanding.

  • understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values.
  • use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation. 
  • recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating location on opposite sides of 0 on the number line.
