Class Topics: 04.16.14

In Common Core Math Six today, students in and 3° received their Chapter Eleven Midpoint Quiz and discussed common successes and possible missteps.  Mr. Giomini introduced linear inequalities today and all the kids shouted "YEAH!"  Two lessons were combined today, Lesson 11.4: Inequalities and 11.5: Solving Inequalities by Adding and Subtracting.  Students learned how to read, write, solve, and graph linear inequalities.  iPads and Chromebooks helped reinforce today's lesson.

Mr. Giomini makes $7.50 per hour working at a convenience store. If he gets a bonus of $25 this week,
how many hours must he work to make at least $275?

Students in 2° continued work in two groups.  Mr. Giomini's group continued working with Lesson 9.4: Surface Areas of Prisms, Cylinders, and Spheres.  The focus today was prisms and how to calculate their surface area.

In Miss McGreer's group, students continued working with sets of data and how to calculate measures of central tendency.  The class also analyzed graphs.

During , students reviewed briefly with Mr. Giomini before completing today's Chapter Eleven Midpoint Quiz.

Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  • and 3° -
    • read and write inequalities.
    • graph inequalities on a number line.
    • solve inequalities by adding or subtracting.
  •  -
    • Gio's Group -
      • calculate the surface area for prisms.
      • calculate the surface for cylinders.
    • McGreer's Group -
      • explain the different measures of central tendency.
      • determine which measure most accurately reflects a set of data.
      • select an appropriate graph for a set of data.
  •  -
    • solve multi-step equations by combining like terms.
    • create and solve equations from story problems.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete...
