Class Topics: 02.03.14

In Common Core Math Six, students in 1, 3, and  reviewed the Chapter Seven - Plane Geometry pretest breakdown by period.  Mr. Giomini merged Lesson 7.1: Points, Lines, and Planes and Lesson 7.2: Angles together today.  Chapter Seven is loaded with vocabulary and the focus today was on plane, congruent, complementary angles, and supplementary angles.

Two angles are supplementary.  The measure of the larger angle
is five times the measure of the smaller angle.  Write an equation
to the find the measure of both angles.

What does this have to do with supplementary angles?
Students in  completed their Chapter Five Posttest in class today.  Look for updated grade and comments later in the evening or early Tuesday morning.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • 1, 3, and 4°
    • describe geometric figures.
    •  identify angles and parts of angles.
  • 2° -
    • write a ratio to compare two different items.
    • compare two ratios using a proportion.
    • simplify ratios when needed.
    • use dimensional analysis to solve multi-step conversions.
    • identify corresponding sides for two shapes.
    • calculate the missing value for a shape using a proportion.
    • use scale factor to determine missing values.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1, 3, and 4° -
    • complete Lesson 7.2 Practice C and Problem Solving.
  • 2° -
    • check Gradebook Wizard for your updated grade and new comments.

  2. Hicov,

I love the equation! Now solve for x and tell me the measure of each angle.

    1. To solve the equation you must take:

      1. 5x+x=180 and add the extra x to the 5x, making it 6x.
      2. Now you have 6x=180, so you must take off the 6 to solve for one x. You have to divide 180/6 to get 30.
      3. X=30
      4. Substitute the number back into the equation.
      5. 5*30+30=180
