Class Topics: 08.30.13

In Common Core Math Six, students finished the week with the final lesson, 1.6 - Box-and-Whisker Plots. before Wednesday's midpoint quiz.  This is a graph that the students have little to no prior knowledge of and allows us to introduce several new vocabulary terms such as: first quartile, second quartile, third quartile, lower extreme and upper extreme.   
Today's Learning Targets: The student is expected to....
  • organize and display data in a box-and-whisker plot.
  • determine the upper and lower extremes, median, and upper and lower quartiles.
  • compare the data in a box-and-whisker plot to the same data in a line plot.  
For Weekend Practice, the student is expected to...
  • P1 and P4 - complete numbers 1 - 9, 19 and 20 on pages 30 and 31.
