Class Topics: 09.03.13

In Common Core Math Six, students in first, third, and fourth period reviewed for Wednesday's Chapter One midpoint quiz.  Mr. Giomini created a checklist of skills that were introduced and practiced leading up to the midpoint that students should be proficient with for tomorrow's quiz.  Students were then broken into small groups to complete a task dealing with data, measures of central tendency, and histograms.

Students in second period Common Core Math Six worked with Lesson 1.6 - Box-and-Whisker Plots. This lesson helped us find multiple medians for a set of data and introduced us to the terms: first quartile, second quartile, third quartile, lower extreme, and upper extreme.
Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • organize and display data in a box-and-whisker plot.  (2°)
  • determine the upper and lower extremes, median, and upper and lower quartiles.  (2°)
  • compare the data in a box-and-whisker plot to the same data in a line plot.   (2°)
  • explain the three ways that the distribution of a set of data can be described.  (1°, 3°, and 4°)
  • describe the center of a set of data in terms of mean, median, and mode.   (1°, 3°, and 4°)
  • read information in a histogram.   (1°, 3°, and 4°)
  • organize and display information in a histogram.   (1°, 3°, and 4°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • review material for tomorrow's Chapter One midpoint quiz.  (CLICK HERE) (1°, 3°, and 4°)
  • complete Lesson 1.6 - Handout.  (CLICK HERE)  (2°)
