Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to show what they currently know about...
- identifying outcomes and calculate the probability of an event.
- demonstrating an understanding of how sample size affects outcomes.
- solving equations using trial-and-error.
- determining expected outcomes.
- creating and using tree diagrams to find possibilities of compound events.
- Study Link 6.7.
- view the Khan video show below.
- view Mr. Giomini's shown below and answer the question on the back of your Study Link.
Introduction to dependent probability: Deciding whether you want to play a game at a strange casino.
In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed last night's Evening Practice with each other and then asked Mr. Giomini to clarify any questions that were still unresolved. Mr. Giomini then introduced and modeled Lesson 8.6: Applications of Percents. Some of the questions that students encountered in this lesson include:
- A
real-estate agent is paid a monthly salary of $900 plus commission. Last month
he sold one condominium for $65,000, earning a 4% commission on the sale. How
much was his commission? What was his total pay last month?
- A
sales associate earned $770 in commission in May. If his commission is 7% of
sales, how much were his sales in May?
- calculate commission, sales tax and withholding tax.
- tell how commission is similar to finding sales tax.
- explain whether adding 6% sales tax to a total gives the same results as finding 106% of the total.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned...
- questions 13 through 18 on pages 426 and 427.
