Once data comparing the pre- to the post was discussed, students completed Probe III. These probes are designed to help us demonstrate our current level of understanding for various indicators presented throughout the first three quarters of the school year.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
- implement test-taking strategies when answering both multiple choice and short answer questions.
- explain their reasoning for solving a problem.
- check to see if their answer makes sense with what a question is asking.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned...
- Math Journal 247 and 249.
Second Period: Class Average - 88%
Average Growth - 67.5%
Fourth Period: Class Average - 83%
Average Growth - 58.7%
In Pre-Algebra today, students worked with Lesson 8.5: Estimating with Percents. We talked about using compatible numbers when dealing with fractions and percents. An example of this is pictured below:
Students were then asked to apply this skill to different story problems.
- The diameter of the Moon is about 2160 miles. If the diameter of the Moon is about 27% of the diameter of Earth, what is the approximate diameter of Earth?
- The length of a football field is 83% of the length of a soccer field. If a football field is 100 yards, what is the approximate length of a soccer field?
- determine the ratios that are nearly equivalent to each of the following percents: 23%, 53%, 65%, 12% and 76%.
- describe how to find 35% of a number when you know 10% of the number.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned one of the following assignments based on their Lesson Quiz results...
- LI: 21 - 31 on page 422.
- LII: 27 - 35 on pages 422 and 423.
