Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
- add and subtract fractions with like denominators.
- identify possible outcomes of an experiment.
- calculate probabilities when outcomes are equally likely.
- compare predictions based on theoretical and experimental results.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned one of the following based on the Lesson Quiz results...
- LI: Study Link 7.1.
- LII: 9.1 Practice B.
- LIII: 9.1 Problem Solving.
In Pre-Algebra today, students discussed last night' Evening Practice with Mr. Giomini. Once that was complete, Lesson 8.7 - More Applications of Percents. This lesson focused on the formula for simple interest: Simple Interest = Principal * rate of interest * time. Some of the problems that we dealt with include:
- To buy a laptop computer, Elaine
borrowed $2,000 for 3 years at an annual simple interest rate of 5%. How much
interest will she pay if she pays the entire loan off at the end of the third
year? What is the total amount that she will repay?
- John’s parents deposited $1000 into a
savings account as a college fund when he was born. How much will John have in this account after
18 years at a yearly simple interest rate of 3.25%?
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
- explain the meaning of each variable in the interest formula.
- tell what should be used for t when referring to 6 months.
- compute simple interest.
For Evening Practice, the student is assigned one of the following based on the Lesson Quiz results...
- LI: 1 - 4 and 7 - 16 on page 430.
- LII: 5 - 12 and 18 - 20 on pages 430 and 431.
