Class Topics: 01.17.13

In Math Six today, students reviewed last night's Evening Practice with Mr. Giomini before wrapping up Lesson 5.6: Congruent Figures.  Once that was completed, Mr. Giomini modeled proportional relationships between two shapes as well as discussed two questions from the Unit Five Formative Pretest.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. identify congruent figures.
  2. use appropriate tools to construct congruent figures.
  3. draw similar shapes that model proportional relationships.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1. complete the questions posted to the blog.
  2. complete a Khan Skill - Congruent Triangles (1 stack or until Proficient)
  3. review for Unit Five Summative Posttest on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

In  Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed their Evening Practice with Mr. Giomini.  Rather than move into Lesson 6.9, we did a holding pattern over Lesson 6.8: Surface Area of Prisms and Cylinders which we began yesterday with mixed results.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. develop a formula that can be used to calculate the surface area of a prisms and cylinders.
  2. apply the formula for finding surface area of prisms and cylinders to real-world applications.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1. answer questions 9 - 12 and 15 - 21 on page 318 and 319.  (ANSWERS CLICK HERE!!!)
If I need to know how much grain I can
store in my Hanson tower silo, what
measure would I need to calculate?
30 ft diameter and 110 ft tall
Wow!  This kid loves volume and surface area!
