Day 94: Math 6: Review Day / Math 6+: Midpoint and Simple Interest

Math 6 students reviewed the previous lessons by completing a Socrative that dealt primarily with equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents along with calculating the percent of a given number. Afterwards, Mr. Giomini discussed each question in the Socrative to clarify any misunderstandings.

Students reviewed the evening practice from the weekend. Time was given to complete Monday's assignment.

Math 6+ students reviewed their Topic Six Midpoint. Mr. Giomini reintroduced simple interest from last Wednesday and went through some example problems. Students were then given time in class to complete their nightly assignment.

Skills that were introduced, modeled, practiced, and informally/formally assessed today in class include:
Math 6:
  • Write equivalent values as fractions, decimals, and percents.
  • Write fractions as decimals and percents when the denominator of the fraction is not 100.
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity).
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
Math 6+:
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity).
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
  • Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error. (7th Grade)
