Day 95: Math 6: Find the Whole Given a Part and the Percent - Math 6+: Socrative Percent Review

Math 6 students reviewed last night's evening practice with Mr. Giomini; he attempted to clarify any misconceptions. Students completed another Socrative similar to yesterday's where they had to find the percent of a given number.

Lesson 6.6 introduced problems such as the one pictured below:



Math 6+ students continued to work with simple interest story problems to better help our fluency with the skill. Calculators are made accessible to help with the process. 

Skills that were introduced, modeled, practiced, and informally/formally assessed today in class include:
Math 6:
  • Write equivalent values as fractions, decimals, and percents.
  • Write fractions as decimals and percents when the denominator of the fraction is not 100.
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity).
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
Math 6+:
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity). 
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
  • Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error. (7th Grade)
