Day 87: Math 6: Converting Between Fractions, Decimals, and Percents / Math 6+: Comparing to Make Percents

Math 6 students reviewed Lesson 6.2: Relate Fractions, Decimals, and Percents and discussed Tuesday night's evening practice. Mr. Giomini modeled a matching game for the students that they'd play in groups of three. The purpose of the game was to build greater understanding and fluency when converting between the fractions, decimals, and percents.

Math 6+ students reviewed Tuesday's work involving percents of a number. Mr. Giomini modeled how to use percent when comparing two numbers. Proportions and one-step equations were utilized. Students were encouraged to develop their own algorithms as well.

Skills that were introduced, modeled, practiced, and informally assessed today in class include:
Math 6:
  • Write equivalent values as fractions, decimals, and percents.
  • Write fractions as decimals and percents when the denominator of the fraction is not 100.
Math 6+:
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity).
  • Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
