Day Eleven: Divide Fractions by Fractions

Today in Math 6 students continued to work with Lesson 1.5: Dividing Fractions by Fractions. The focus was to continue to work with creating visual representations for our different division scenarios. Making area models is a weakness for some of us; it also helps us physically see the division.

Students in Math 6+ continued their work with Lesson 1.5: Dividing Fractions by Fractions. Due to falling behind a little yesterday, Mr. Giomini incorporated negative fractions into the work today.

Both classes began with a quiz based off of the work they did on their Gizmo over the weekend.

Essential understanding for Lesson 1.5:
  • Visual models, such as number lines and area models, and equations can be used to represent and solve problems that involve division of fractions.
  • Dividing by a fraction is equivalent to multiplying by the fraction's reciprocal.
In this lesson, students will be able to...
  • use models to divide fractions by fractions.
  • use an algorithm to divide fractions by fractions.
For evening practice, the student is expected to...
  • complete pages 41 and 42 in the enVision workbook.
  • complete pages 41 and 42 in the enVision workbook.
Fast forward to about the six minute mark.
