Day 160: Multistep Equations with Fractions / Surface Area

Today in 1 and 3° Math 6 and Math 6+, students viewed the video posted below to help with today's skill: Solving Multistep Equations with Fractions.  Students spent time practicing the skill both as a class and in small groupings of peers.

Distributive property to simplify:Incorporating Fractions
In Math 6 during 2°, students continued their work with unfolding three-dimensional prisms to construct their surface area.  Mr. Giomini introduced a new formula to the students to help with calculating the surface area for right rectangular prisms.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question. (1, 3, and 7°)
  • use substitution to determine whether a given number makes an equation or inequality true. (1, 3, and 7°)
  • find the surface area of a right rectangular prism. (2°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1 and 3° -
    • Handout from teacher.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 2° -
    • Complete 14.2 Practice Buddy.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
    • 7° -
      • Handout from teacher.
      • Have 100% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
    • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
