Day 159: Multistep Equations / Nets and Surface Area

Today in 1 and 3° Math 6 and Math 6+, students viewed the video posted below to help reacquaint them with solving multistep equations.  Almost all examples today incorporated positive and negative integers.  The problems allowed students the opportunity to work with the distributive property.

In Math 6 during 2°, students viewed the video below to help create nets from three-dimensional drawings. Once the net was constructed, students began to label the dimensions of the two-dimensional shapes and calculate their area.   By combining all of the areas, students were able to calculate the surface area for the entire three-dimensional shape.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question. (1, 3, and 7°)
  • use substitution to determine whether a given number makes an equation or inequality true. (1, 3, and 7°)
  • find the surface area of a right rectangular prism. (2°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  • 1 and 3° -
    • Handout from teacher.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
  • 2° -
    • Homework and Practice Buddy 14.1.
    • Have 100% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
    • 7° -
      • Handout from teacher.
      • Have 100% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by May 27th.
    • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
