Day 130: Area of Triangles / Percent of a Number / Pythagorean Theorem

Today in Math 6, students in and 3° completed an online Quick Check that dealt with calculating the area of triangles.  Once that was completed, students worked with a few application problems that incorporated finding the area of triangles.

In Math 6 students began working with percents today.

During 7 °, students in Math 6+ continued their work with the Pythagorean Theorem.  Mr. Giomini modeled how to simplify square roots because that is an issue that arises when finding a missing leg or hypotenuse.

Today's Learning Targets: The student will be able to...
  • find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100. (2°)
  • solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent. (2°)
  • find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes. (1, 3, & 7°)
  • apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles. (7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...

  • 1 & 3° -
    • Complete 13.2: Practice Buddy.
    • Have 75% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • 2° -
    • Complete handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 75% of 6th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • 7° -
    • Complete handout from Mr. Giomini.
    • Have 50% of 7th Grade Khan Skills mastered by March 23rd.
  • All Classes: Complete at least 10 minutes of work on Khan Academy to help review old content, practice new material, or front-load future concepts.
