Day Two: Exponents

Today in Math 6, students were introduced to exponents.  The terms base, exponent, factors, and factor string were discussed.  Mr. Giomini modeled examples for students and provided class time to work independently and then conference with colleagues to discuss algorithms and answers.

Today in Math 6+, students worked with exponents.  Students were given different examples of how exponents are used in different professions.  Mr. Giomini challenged the students with negative bases when parenthesis are present and not present.

  1. write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.  
  2. fluently multiply positive rational numbers.
  3. write and evaluate numerical expressions involving positive and negative numbers. (6+)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. complete ten minutes of meaningful practice on Khan Academy. (Exponents)
  2. Math 6: Problem Solving on page 6
  3. Math 6 - 2°: Pages 11 and 12 in your enVision workbook.
  4. Math 6+: Problem Solving on page 6.
