Day Three: Order of Operations

Today in Math 6, students worked with order of operations which some might recall as PEMDAS. Mr. Giomini modeled examples for the students to record into their mathematics notebook.  Problems were provided to students where they needed to place parentheses correctly into a problem in order to calculate a specific answer.  Time was provided at the end of the class to begin weekend practice.

Today in Math 6+, students worked with order of operations.  After modeling some examples, Mr. Giomini had students create problems whose output would provide a specific answer and with a minimum number of steps in the algorithm.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divided whole numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation.
For Weekend Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. complete ten minutes of meaningful practice on Khan Academy.
  2. Math 6: Problem Solving on page 10.
  3. Math 6 - 2°: 10 minutes of Khan for each day.
  4. Math 6+: Problem Solving on page 10.
