Day Four: Order of Operations and Prime Factorization

Today in Math 6, students in and worked with prime factorization.  Students discussed the differences between a prime and composite number as well as created factor trees to help determine a number's prime factorization.

During Math 6 - 2°, students continued Friday's work with order of operations (PEMDAS).  Mr. Giomini assigned two pages for students to complete independently to help assess current level of understanding.

Today in Math 6+, students worked with prime factorization.  Mr. Giomini provided the students with a challenge problem that he later posted to his Twitter account for those who are interested.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divided whole numbers using the standard algorithm for each operation.  (Math 6-2°)
  2. decompose a whole number to its prime factorization.  (Math 6 - 1 and 3° and Math 6+)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. complete ten minutes of meaningful practice on Khan Academy.
  2. Math 6: Problem Solving page 13
  3. Math 6 - 2°: Page 18 in the enVision workbook
  4. Math 6+: Challenge 2.1 - Money Grows
