Class Topics: 10.09.13

In Common Core Math Six, students in 1, 3, and reviewed absolute value and its application in Mathematics and for the chapter.  Mr. Giomini then introduced Lesson 3.2: The Coordinate Plane.  Students were paired together by Mr. Giomini on a partner project involving a coordinate grid and distributing emergency services to the country of Haiti after its earthquake in 2012.  

Students in  spent time reviewing the different skills that are assessed on tomorrow's Chapter Two posttest.  We did this by playing Jeopardy as class.

    • describe and give examples of how positive or negative numbers are used to describe quantities having opposite directions or opposite values.   
    •  recognize that positive and negative signs represent opposite values and/or directions. 
    •  explain that the number zero is that point at which direction or value will change.  
    • plot points on a coordinate plane. 
    • use the PEMDAS algorithm to solve order of operation problems.
    • translate word phrases into algebraic expressions.
    • solve one-step equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
