Class Topics: 04.15.13

In Math Six today, students received their Unit Eight Midpoint Quiz back.  Mr. Giomini discussed the overall class results as well as the difference between a graph and a table that some caused some students to have points deducted from question six.

Students then reviewed converting between fractions, decimals and percents by playing a cooperative game against each other.  Mr. Giomini then displayed two short answer response questions on the board for the students to deconstruct and answer.  He supplied the students another problem that was already answered and students had to determine whether the answer would receive a 0, 1 or 2 according to a shared rubric.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. convert between fractions, decimals and percents.
  2. analyze and evaluate someone's work.
  3. deconstruct word problems and answer all parts of a question.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  1. answer the two questions posted below on the graph paper provided by Mr. Giomini.
    • Matthew opened a savings account with $18 and saved $2 each week for 8 weeks.  Rachel opened a savings account with $25 and saved $1 each week for the same 8 weeks.  Determine which week Matthew and Rachel will have the same amount of money in their savings accounts.  Show or explain your work.  (4 points)
    • Draw two rectangles that have the same area but different perimeters.  Label the dimensions.  Give the area and perimeter of both rectangles.  (2 points)
In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed material from lessons 10.1 through 10.3 in preparation for tomorrow's Chapter Ten Midpoint Quiz.  Students worked independently and with various partners to compare answers.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. combine like terms in an algebraic equation.
  2. use the distributive property in an algebraic equation.
  3. determine the least common multiple to find common denominators.
  4. solve algebraic equations with variables on both sides of the equation.
For Evening Practice, the student is expect to...
  1. make corrections to problems one through twelve on their Chapter Ten Pretest.
  2. answer the two questions posted below on graph paper provided by Mr. Giomini.
    • Matthew opened a savings account with $18 and saved $2 each week for 8 weeks.  Rachael opened a savings account with $25 and saved $1 each week for the same 8 weeks.  Determine which week Matthew and Rachael will have the same amount of money in their savings accounts.  Show or explain your work.  (4 points)
