Class Topics: 04.12.13

In Math Six today, students completed their Chapter Eight Midpoint Quiz.  Results will be posted over the weekend.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. analyze story problems and identify data needed to write open proportions.
  2. use cross products when solving proportions.
  3. solve algebraic equations.
  4. create a table to solve a rate problem.
  5. convert between hours and minutes.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  1.  complete Khan skill - Proportions I.
In Pre-Algebra today, students discussed last night's Evening Practice with a peer while checking their answers with Mr. Giomini's.  Students then practiced with Lesson 10.3 - Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides.  This was another tedious lesson that required us to show our work in several steps.  Below is an example of two story problems discussed in class when an equation had to be both created and solved.

Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. use the distributive property to simplify algebraic expressions.
  2. combine like terms.
  3. find the least common denominator to simplify algebraic expressions.
  4. determine the value of a variable in an algebraic expression when variables are on both sides of the equation.
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to...
  1. answer questions 21 - 32 and 40 - 46 on pages 510 and 511.
