Class Topics: 04.16.13

In Math Six today, students reviewed the two questions that they had for Evening Practice from Monday night.  Once that was complete, Mr. Giomini modeled how to play the game "I Have, Who Has?" Students played as a class and then in groups of three to four.  The class then read and deconstructed two story problems to help develop effective and accurate answers.

  1. answer the two questions posted below on paper supplied by Mr. Giomini.
Evening Practice Questions
  • The original cost of the guitar that Jane wants to buy is $240 in two different stores. Sam’s Music is having a sale where guitars are discounted by 30%. Melody Music is offering a $45 discount on the same guitar.  On one side of your half sheet of paper, explain which store is offering the better deal. Show work or provide an explanation to support your answer.
  • Buses to the stadium leave Central Station every 10 minutes. Buses to the zoo leave Central Station every 16 minutes. Both buses leave Central Station at 4 p.m. On one side of your half sheet of paper, find the next time both buses will leave Central Station at the same time. Show or explain how you found your answer.
In Pre-Algebra today, students first reviewed and then completed their Chapter Ten Midpoint Quiz.

  1. combine like terms in an algebraic equation.
  2. use the distributive property in an algebraic equation.
  3. determine the least common multiple to find common denominators.
  4. solve algebraic equations with variables on both sides of the equation.
