Class Topics: 11.28.12

In Math Six today, students discussed last night's Evening Practice with Mr. Giomini before beginning Lesson 4.2: Comparing Fractions.  This lesson allowed us to use benchmark fractions such as one-half and one whole as well as finding quick common denominators as well as the least common denominator to compare two fractions as well as organize them from least to greatest.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. compare fractions with unlike denominators.
  2. reduce fractions to simplest terms.
  3. use multiplication and division facts to generate equivalent fractions.
  4. arrange a list of fractions from least to greatest.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1.  complete Math Journal 128.
  2. complete Khan Skill, simplifying fractions, by Thursday.

In Pre-Algebra today, students created graphical representations and interpreted data sets while completing the Chapter Four summative posttest.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. read, construct and interpret line graphs, circle graph and histograms.
  2. describe the frequency distribution of a set of data.
  3. understand the different information provided by measures of central tendency and measures of spread.
  4. make logical inferences from statistical data.
  5. determine whether correlations exist between two sets of data by creating a scatter plot.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
