Class Topics: 11.13.12

In Math Six today, students completed a Quick Check that involved skills from Lessons 1.1 through 1.4 as we begin the process of preparing for our Chapter One summative posttest on Friday, November 16th.  Mr. Giomini reviewed last night's Khan skill and encouraged those who either did not meet proficient or did not start to try again tonight.

Students then collaborated to graph an equation from given values from Mr. Giomini on a coordinate plane.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. substitute a given value into an equation.
  2. write solutions for an equation when given the values for x and y.
  3. graph an equation on a coordinate plane.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1. complete Lesson 1.7 Practice A.
  2. review material from Lesson 1.1 through 1.4.

In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed the difference between rational and irrational numbers since that hurt our overall score on the Chapter Three summative posttest from last week.

After, students received their Chapter Four formative pretests and we discussed areas of strength and weakness.  We then began Lesson 4.1: Samples and Surveys.  This was a glaring weakness on the pretest and understandable so since it is new to us.  Some of the vocabulary introduced included: population, sample, biased sample, random sample, systematic sample and stratified sample.
Today's Learning Goals: The student will be able to...
  1. determine the different components of a sample.
  2. recognize biased sampling techniques.
  3. identify sampling methods.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1. make corrections to numbers one through three on the Chapter Four pretest.
  2. complete pages 174 through 177, numbers 1 through 16, 18 and 20, 22 through 25.
