Class Topics: 09.26.12

In Math Six today, students developed a deeper understanding of multiplying decimals by working on Lesson 2.6 - Multiplication of Decimals Part II.  This lesson, along with real-world applications that Mr. Giomini shared, helped increase the rigor of the curriculum and modeled how multiplying decimals are used.
Today's Learning Intentions: The student will be able to...
  1. apply previous learned skills of multiplying decimals to solve real-world application of problems.
  2. collaborate with peers and share solutions to problems.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that students...
  1. complete Math Journal 63 using a calculator only to check work.
  2. view the video below to help with test preparation.

In Pre-Algebra today, students further deepened their understanding of exponents by working with Lesson 2-7: Properties of Exponents.  This lesson took what the students learned on Tuesday with basic vocabulary such as the base and exponent and now incorporated multiplying and dividing powers with the same base.  Mr. Giomini started class with question listed below to allow students to see an application of the skill:
  • There are about 10^25 molecules in a cubic meter of air at sea level, but only 10^23 molecules at high altitude (33 km).  How many times more molecules are there at sea level than at 33 km?

Today's Learning Intentions: The student will be able to...
  1. apply the properties of exponents to different situations.
  2. divide and multiply exponents with common bases.
For Evening Practice, it is suggested that the student...
  1. complete 2-7 Interactive Problem Solving.  (Handout)

  2. The links which you have mentioned are helpful to learn the math skill.I can't understand why kids hate math. It's such a interesting subject. If they have any problem in it then they can understand it with help of online tutoring.
