Class Topics: 08.23.12

In Math Six today, students completed their Unit One Formative Pre-test.  The score will be entered into Gradebook Wizard, but will not count against the overall grade.  This will serve as an excellent tool to see what knowledge students currently possessed when it comes to analyzing and developing inferences about data and constructing various tables, charts and graphs.
Today's Learning Intentions: The student will be able to...
  1. demonstrate their current level of understanding of the material presented in Unit One in the Math Six curriculum.
For Evening Practice, the students CAN...
  1. practice a game on Nikoli and create your own explanation as to how one plays the game.
  2. post your explanation to the blog under today's Class Topics.
  3. check Gradebook Wizard by tomorrow morning to find out your Unit One Formative Pre-test grade.
In Pre-Algebra today, students completed their Chapter One Formative Pre-test.  The material in this unit will provide us with a solid foundation for things to come later in the year.  This will serve as an excellent tool to see what knowledge students currently possess when it comes to: translating word phrases into algebraic expressions/equations, evaluating algebraic expressions when given a specific value, simplifying, solving and checking algebraic equation and graphing inequalities.
Today's Learning Intentions: The student will be able to...
  1. demonstrate their current level of understanding of the material presented in Chapter One in the Holt Pre-algebra curriculum.
For Evening Practice, the students CAN...
  1. practice a game on Nikoli and create your own explanation as to how one plays the game.

I did the game Numberlink. In the game there were about 10 numbers 2 of each and you have to connect the same numbers without the lines running into each other.

  14. Mr.Giomini,

I did the numberlink and I thought it was a little tricky and confusing. At first I was thinking that it was going to be easy but then I realized that it was harder than I thought. There were so many twists and turns that I had to do before I could figure out the puzzle. It was a challenging and fun game.

The shikaku #2 was a bit challenging; there was a number 10 that had other numbers around it. I figured it out in 5 minutes.

I chose to play the masyu game on the nikoli website. It is a game that has several black and white dots on a grid, you have to connect them while following the rules for each piece. The game was pretty hard and toke alot of thinking.

I did the Sudoko puzzle which was easy at first and then got harder toward the end. The strategy I used was to count 1 through 9 and see what missing numbers were not yet repeated.
