Class Topics: 04.19.12

In EDM today, students completed a two point response question as a Quick Check and then compared their answer to Mr. Giomini's that he modeled on a video.  We then discussed setting who we could create a proportion to solve a problem such as: "The price of every sale item is 4/5 its regular price.  What percent of the regular price must you pay for a sale item?"

Students then collaborated in pairs or pods to complete Math Journal pages 306 and 307 from Lesson 8.8: Calculating the Fat Content of Foods.  The skills on these pages helped estimate and convert fractions to percents using nutritional fact labels.
Today's Learning Intentions: The student will be able to...
  1. create a ratio from given data.
  2. set-up a proportion to compare two ratios.
  3. estimate percents when given a fraction.
  4. convert fractions to percents.
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  1. complete Math Box 8.8 on page 307.
  2. complete Lesson 8.8 handout.  (CLICK HERE if you misplaced)
In Pre-Algebra today, students completed Lesson 9.2: Experimental Probability.  We discussed the difference between theoretical and experimental probability by using some basic experiments and then collecting data from several trials.  Students then collaborated with a partner to complete Challenge 9.2 which allowed us to compare our theoretical and experimental probability outcomes.
Today's Learning Intentions: The student will be able to...
  1. determine the difference between theoretical and experimental probability.
  2. collect data from trials in a probability experiment.
  3. convert data into fractions and percents.
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  1. complete Problem Solving 9.2.  (CLICK HERE)
