Class Topics: 04.04.12

In EDM today, we had all three class periods doing something different.  In both first and third period, students conferenced with Mr. Giomini or Mrs. Brodke and Mrs. Schafer to review their performance on the third OAA Probe.  These probes are used to give the students access to previously learned material that they may see on the Ohio Achievement Assessment that will be administered shortly after our return from Spring Break.  Third Period also completed their Unit Eight Formative Pretest.

Fifth Period worked in the Sixth Grade Computer Lab and completed their final Discovery Education Benchmark Assessment.  This is a tool that Avon Lake utilizes to monitor student growth over the course of the school year.
Today's Learning Intentions: The students will be able to...
  1. reflect on their OAA Probe and identify areas of strength and weakness.  (First and Third Period)
  2. explain why they may have made a mistake and decide what they will do next time when they confront a similar problem.  (First and Third Period)
  3. demonstrate their current level of understanding when it comes to the Sixth Grade Mathematics Standards by completing the Discovery Education Benchmark Assessment online.  (Fifth Period)
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  1. complete the Khan video and Khan Link that were assigned Monday and that are due Thursday.
In Pre-Algebra today, students reviewed their homework from last night and then completed a Chapter Eight book review for the skills that are presented on tomorrow's Chapter Eight Summative Posttest.  While students worked in small pods to review, Mr. Giomini conferenced with students to discuss their performance on the third Discovery Education Benchmark Assessment.
Today's Learning Intentions: The students will be able to...
  1. calculate the specific percent of a number.
  2. determine the percentage increase or decrease using a formula.
  3. apply their knowledge of percents and unknown numbers to solve various story problems.
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  1. utilize the various handouts and videos on the blog to help prepare for tomorrow's Chapter Eight Summative Assessment.
