Class Topics: 02.21.12

In EDM, students reviewed their quiz results from last Friday.  This quiz score was posted to GBW on Sunday, February 19th.  Students can arrange for a retake, but steps must be met in order to allow for a retake.  These steps were discussed in class today.

We then introduced Lesson 1.4: Solving Equations by Multiplying and Dividing.  Students, remember that it is important that you substitute your final answer back into the original equation.  Once you substitute, both sides should check by equaling the same value on both sides of the equal sign.
In class, students...
  • practiced solving equations that involved both multiplication and division.
  • collaborated with a peer or with Mr. Giomini to complete Reteach 1.4.
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  • complete Practice 1.4.
  • complete One-Step Equations on Khan.
    • Parents, you can ask to see their score once they are done.  I am not looking for perfection, rather I am looking for diligence and a willingness to view the video and use the hints when needed.
    • Students, don't forget to LOGIN before you begin.
Don't forget about your integers!

Here is a model for question 16
on the quiz from Friday.
Quick review for Evening Practice tonight.
In Pre-Algebra, students received their Chapter Seven Formative Pretest back.  The class average was a 27.5% which gives us some room for improvement.  We introduced Lesson 7.1: Ratios and Proportions which begins on page 342.  In this lesson, students reviewed calculating equivalent fractions/ratios which were missed by several people on the pretest.

In class, students...
  • completed the Daily Warm-Up and Problem of the Day.
  • practiced creating ratios that were equivalent to a given ratio.
  • used their new skills and applied them to problem situations.
For Evening Practice, students CAN...
  • complete problems 13 - 16, 17 - 25 (odd) and 28 all parts.
  • complete Ratios to Fractions on Khan.
    • Parents, you can ask to see their score once they are done.  I am not looking for perfection, rather I am looking for diligence and a willingness to view the video and use the hints when needed.
    • Students, don't forget to LOGIN before you begin.
Use this to help with numbers 16 - 25 on your homework.
