Class Topics: 02.06.12

In EDM, students received their Unit Six Formative Pre-Test from Friday.  During the course of the week, students should check the blog to see Mr. Giomini model some problems from the pre-test.  We then analyzed  the breakdown of the individual questions from the Unit Six Formative Pre-Test comparing areas of strength and weakness amongst the three classes.

We began Lesson 6.1: Multiplication of Fractions and Mixed Numbers in Volume II of our Everyday Mathematics curriculum.  Students explained the algorithm for multiplying fractions and applied it to mixed numbers.
In class, students...
  • discussed  Unit Six Formative Pre-Test.
  • completed MJ 205 as a whole class.
  • began MJ 206 in class.
For homework, students SHOULD...
  • complete MJ 205 and 206.
  • view the video on the blog that front loads tomorrow's lesson on dividing fractions using a reciprocal.
Follow these steps when dividing
fractions tomorrow.

Watch this video for homework tonight.
In Pre-Algebra, students reviewed their weekend homework dealing with Lesson 6.7: Volume of Pyramids and Cones.
Before progressing into lesson 6.8, we reviewed some of the different formulas that we have utilized in the past week to make sure that we are all on the same page.  The problems we used in class dealt with real-life situations.
In class, students...
  • reviewed the homework from the weekend.
  • utilized the appropriate formula to solve various word problems.

For homework, students SHOULD...
  • make corrections to the front side of their Unit Six Formative Pre-Test.
