Class Topics: 02.03.12

In EDM, students completed their Unit Six Formative Pretest.  This unit promises to be something different for the students as we will utilize parts of the Everyday Mathematics' curriculum and part of our Holt Pre-Algebra curriculum.  Earlier in the year, we spent some time translating word phrases into algebraic expressions and equations.  This unit will go a bit beyond that I am eager to see how the students respond.
In class, students...
  • completed their Unit Six Formative Pretest.
  • discussed some effective study skills for school and at home.
  • showed where students can find our construction project from yesterday.
For homework, students SHOULD...
  • view the video posted below to assist in preparing for Monday's assignment.
  • post a comment if the urge hits you.
You should be able to solve
this from start to finish
after Unit Six.

EDM: Watch for homework and
comment if the urge happens.
Construction project modeled for you.
In Pre-Algebra, students applied the new formulas for pyramids and cones to real-world problems in Lesson 6.7: Volume of Pyramids and Cones.  After introducing the formulas, students copied them onto their Formula Cards which should look something like the one pictured below.  We then practiced with formulas using our textbook and handout.  Please refer to the videos posted below over the weekend to keep the application of these formulas fresh in your mind.
In class, students...
  • reviewed homework from last night.
  • added new formulas to their Formula Cards.
  • solved computations and real-world applications for various volume scenarios.
For homework, students SHOULD...
  • review the videos posted to the blog both from 02.02.12 and 02.03.12.
  • complete the handout that was issued today in class.
Watch how we come up with one-third
for our new formulas for
pyramid and cone.

  2. Mr. Giomini,
These videos helped me remember what we learned, and I did not know how to find the area of a trapezoid so that helped me too.
