Class Topics: 10.27.11

 In EDM today, we discussed Function Tables a bit more.  We collaborated in breakout groups to construct Function Tables that had either a one or two operations.  This was an extension from yesterday's lesson.  I received a great deal of positive comments about last night's homework which was encouraging.

Pre-Algebra started at 7:00 for some of us today.  Some students came in early to review material for tomorrow's quiz.  In class, we integrated rational numbers into inequalities.  From class discussions and work, I am seeing a comfort level with decimals, but fractions are giving some of us difficulty.    Tomorrow morning, students are welcome to come in early again to review and work on some inequalities if needed.

  8. Mr Giomini,
    When solving for x=17, with the function being y=2(3x-1), first you substitute the x with 17. That makes your problem y=2(3(17)-1. Second, you do 3(17), because it is first in the parenthesis. You get 51. Next, you do the subtract 1 next in the problem. 51-1=50. After this, you have y=2(50). When you multiply 50 by two, you get 100. So, as you can see, I got y=100.

  9. Mr.Giomini,
    I think the anwser to y=2(3 x 17 -1) is 100 because 17 times 3 is 51 then 51 minus 1 is 50 then 50 times 2 is 100.

  21. Mr. Giomini,

    I got an answer of y=100
    I got my answer by setting up the problem which is y=2(3x-1)
    You do the distrubitive property so you must multiply 2 by every thing in the parentheses so 2*3x=6x and 2*1 =2
    Now the new problem is y=6x-2
    +4 Since x is 17 you do 17 *6 which is
    17*
    6=
    102
    now the problem is102-2=100 so y=100

  26. Mr. Giomini,

    For the math problem I got that Y=100 because I multiplied 17*3=51.Then, I subtacted 50-1=50. Finally, I multiplied 50*2=100.One hundred is my final answer.

  28. Hola Mr. Giomini,

    I got 100 for y. I got 100 because I put a 17 where I saw an x. Then I multiplied 17x 3 and got 51 then subtracted 51 by 1. Then finally I multiplied 50x 2 and got 100.
    y= 2(3x-1)
    y=2(3x 17)-1
    y=2(51-1)
    y=2x50
    y=100
