Day 22: Math 6 - Coordinate Plane / Math 6+: Factoring Polynomials

Students in Math 6 received their Topic Two Mid-point Quiz and Calculation Quiz back from Mr. Giomini. An answer key for the quiz has been shared on PowerSchool for both assessments. Lesson 2.4: Represent Rational Numbers on the Coordinate Plane was introduced and practiced. The class discussed how a coordinate plane is formed by the intersection of a horizontal (x-axis) number line and the vertical (y-axis) number line. Points were plotted on the coordinate plane using ordered pairs.

Math 6+ students completed their Calculation Quiz from Wednesday and polished up some items in preparation for tomorrow's mid-point quiz.

Standards addressed in class today:
  • Math 6:
    • Understand signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane; recognize that when two ordered pairs differ only by signs, the locations of the points are related by reflections across one or both axes.
  • Math 6+:
    • Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.
