Day Seven: Calculation Quiz / Review

Students in Math 6 and 6+ completed their first Calculation Quiz. The quiz consisted of five problems dealing with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of rational numbers. These quizzes are administered weekly. As the quarter progresses, the amount of time allotted will shrink to ten minutes. The first one possesses a more flexible time cap.

Once the quiz was completed, students in Math 6 worked in greater depth with diagraming the multiplication of fractions. Math 6+ students solved multi-step problems dealing with integers, exponents, and positive and negative fractions.

Standards addressed in today's lesson:
  • 6.NS.A.1: Interpret and compute quotients of fractions, and solve word problems involving division of fractions by fractions, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem.
  • 7.NS.A.1.C: Understand subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse, p - q = p + (-q). Show that the distance between two rational numbers on the number line is the absolute value of their difference, and apply this principle in real-world contexts.
