Day 126: Statistical Questions

Students in Math 6 and Math 6+ were introduced to Topic Eight: Display, Describe, and Summarize Data. Classes worked with Lesson 8.1: Recognize Statistical Questions. Refer to the chart below to gain further insight into the differences between statistical and nonstatistical questions.

Learning Goal(s):
  1. Recognize a statistical question as one that anticipates variability in the data related to the question and accounts for it in the answers. For example, "How old am I?" is not a statistical question, but "How old are the students in my school?" is a statistical question because one anticipates variability in students' ages.
  2. Display numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots.
  3. Reporting the number of observations.
