Day 111: Nets / Geometric Construction

In Math 6, students reviewed Topic Seven vocabulary playing Quizlet Live. Mr. Giomini then introduced Lesson 7.5: Represent Solid Figures Using Nets. During this lesson, students worked with various three dimensional shapes: rectangular prism, triangular prism, square pyramid, triangular and pyramid.

Students in Math 6+ completed a Geometry Construction activity. The task was accompanied by a rubric. For 15 minutes, students had to work independently to complete as much of the task as possible. They were then given ten minutes to conference with a peer to compare and construct each other's work. Finally, students were then given the final 15 minutes to complete their construction.

Lesson Objective(s):
  • Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures.
    • Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
  • Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes.
    • Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
