Day 101: Parallelograms and Rhombuses

Students in Math 6 began Topic Seven: Find Areas of Parallelograms and Rhombuses. Today's lesson focused on understanding why the formula A = bh works for both squares, rectangles, parallelograms, and rhombuses.

In Math 6+, students worked with skills from Topic Six: Percent.

Today's Lesson Goal(s):

• develop an understanding of how to calculate the area of a parallelogram by decomposing the parallelogram and composing the shape into a rectangle.
• derive a formula for the area of a parallelogram and rhombus.
