Day 94: Find the Percent of a Number

In Math 6 today, students had an opportunity to retake the second half of last Friday's quiz for full credit during either Academic Extension or recess. This part of the assessment was discussed in detail with all three Math 6 classes.

Students worked with Lesson 6.5: Find the Percent of Number. View the video and picture below to help get a better idea of the skill presented and practiced in class.

Math 6+ students continued work with simple interest as well as sales tax.

Today's Lesson Objective(s):
  • Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity); solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent. (6th Grade)
  • Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error. (7th Grade)
