Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students continued their work with mean absolute deviation. Mr. Giomini created a table that might better help the students organize their work when creating working with several data values and calculating their mean absolute deviation.
During Math 6 - 2°, students used the knowledge attained from Lesson 10.1 and 10.2 to now advance into Lesson 10.3: Compare Rates. Students extend their knowledge and fluency when working with unit rates to begin looking for better deals by comparing multiple rates.
Math 6+ students determined the most appropriate measures of center and variability to describe a given data set based on the context in which the data were collected.
Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
- understand the concept of a unit rate a/b associated with a ratio a:b with b not equaling 0. (2)
- use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. (2)
- give quantitative measures of center (median and/or mean) and variability (interquartile range and/or mean absolute deviation). (1, 3, & 7)
- recognize that a measure of center for a numerical data set summarizes all of its values with a single number, while a measure of variation described how its values vary with a single number. (1, 3, & 7)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
1. Math 6(1&3°):
o Complete page 801 and 802.
o Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
2. Math 6(2°):
o Complete page 491 (1 - 3) and page 492 (10).
o Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
3. Math 6+:
o Complete page 795 and 796.
o Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
4. All Classes: m > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy.
