Day 102: Statistical and Nonstatistical Questions / Model Ratios

Today in Math 6: 1 & 3°, students began Concept 6: Data Analysis.  To introduce the concept, Mr. Giomini discussed the different types of questions that are presented: statistical and nonstatistical. Students practiced creating both types of questions in their notebooks and shared them with their peers.  Questions were posed to the class and debated as to whether the question was statistical or nonstatistical.  Time was given for students to begin their evening practice.

During Math 6 - 2°, students began Lesson 9.2: Model Ratios.  Students extended their knowledge of models as they use bar diagrams and double under lines to represent ratio relationships.  Being able to construct visual representations helps better prepare them for more complex problems.

Today's Learning Target(s): The student will be able to...
  1. understand the concept of ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. (2°)
  2. use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. (2°)
  3. recognize a statistical question as one that anticipates variability in the data related to the question and accounts for its answers. (1, 3, & 7°)
For Evening Practice, the student is expected to complete:
  1. Math 6(1&3°):
    • Complete 15.1 Practice Buddy (Online)
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  2. Math 6(2°):
    • Complete page 436 numbers 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11.
    • Work towards 75% mastery on Khan Academy (6th Grade)
  3. Math 6+:
    • Complete 15.1 Practice Buddy (Online)
    • Work towards 50% mastery on Khan Academy (7th Grade)
  4. All Classes: > 10 minutes meaningful practice at Khan Academy
